So I don't watch American Idol (anymore) OR Kelly Ripa...
and yet this still makes me laugh. I thought you AI fanatics out there (you know who you are) would appreciate it as well.

(that I don't contribute to, of course!)
I've mentioned this blog to a few of you already, but I haven't laughed so much in ages. And yes, let's be clear -- it should really be called "Stuff _Liberal_ People Like" but I guess that didn't sound as controversial. But hi, I'm guilty of about half of these things, and I can laugh about it, so... here you go. (Wes Anderson movies, check! David Sedaris, check! Indie music, Netflix, check and check! Irony! omg, check!)
And the Whole Foods one really made me laugh, because I'm pretty sure all of you know how much I dislike that store (too expensive, too pretentious, yadda yadda). However, I must confess publicly that I've gone 100% VEGAN in my facial products. You have no idea how much it pains me to admit it, but it's working. Sigh. Honestly. Who AM I?
But don't expect it to cost you less....
"Global warming is a total crock of shit."
-- GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, speaking to reporters about why he is behind development of a plug in hybrid. Turns out he's more interested in lessening dependence on foreign oil than in "saving the planet."
"Lipitor makes women stupid."
-- Vice Chairman of Medicine at NY Presbyterian Hospital, Orli Etingin, at a recent luncheon discussing gender issues and the brain. This is all anecdotal, of course. We need more studies.
In other news, enjoy the snow!
How is it that Congress (Congress!) has nothing better to do lately than see if some baseball player took steroids? Hello?
Okay, so... this hearing, as best I can tell, is held by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Maybe I'm missing that baseball subcommittee, but I don't think it's there.
And why is it falling down partisan lines? Have we come to that now?
Well, at least we don't have, like, elections or a war to worry about. So, you know, THAT'S good...
So, once again, I hate everything I have been cooking. It's been winter (sort of) so I've had my share of roast chickens and lasagne. What else? Anyone?
I'm in the middle of cooking a roast chicken (shocking!) right now, but I'll update later with some recent things I've cooked that haven't been... terrible. If I can think of any. I get ready to go to the grocery store every week, and just flip through my recipes, and I can't find anything I want to make.
Part of the problem is that I have so little time on the weekdays, so I pretty much have to have something ready to eat in about 20 minutes. Not a lot of time for creativity. On the weekends I try to make things that leave leftovers, either for lunches or for an additional dinner. But that's still not a lot of time for good cooking.
So... thoughts? Suggestions?
So... I've been meaning to write about this for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it. A few weeks ago, I was listening to NPR's Studio 360 and they did a whole hour on Nikola Tesla. It was fascinating. Check it out here. If you can only stand to listen to some of it, I'd pick the part about Tesla and Twain. I didn't even know they were friends, but apparently I know nothing.
I don't know how much you guys know about Tesla, but he was really incredible. I mean, okay, most of my information comes from the fact that there was a heavy metal band named Tesla in the 80s, and who can forget David Bowie as Tesla in The Prestige? But anyway, amazing mind, but, you know, kind of crazy. He was a contemporary of Edison, but, while people took Tom seriously, they were always rolling their eyes about Nik. They had, um, kind of a rivalry.
Anyway, check it out. It's really interesting.
