I hear ya sista. I had a semi-successful trip to the mall today. First of all, it's intimidating to go to The Mall at Short Hills unless you're dolled up. Then, you have to look past all the beautiful things you can't have. It's an emotional journey.

Anyway, I was mostly looking for basics because nothing I own fits me right. I ran out of time before I could do real damage, which is good. But now I'll have to dream about all those pretty things I saw today...

Oh, and the stuff I've seen highlighted from Forever21 (in my beloved Marie Claire) is all really cool and affordable. Why haven't I shopped there yet?

Alicia

I don't protest anything important anymore, like stupid wars, but I have a mini-revolt when I put on my rattiest jeans, a t-shirt and flip flops and go shopping at the SHM. And I usually wait until I have about an inch of gray roots growing in. I get such a thrill out of blowing the wind out of the sails of fancy people. What is my problem?

Oh, and I like clothes too but feel like I've forgotten what looks good on me.

Emily

I think you should take Angela's advice about finding what brings you joy -- clothes obviously do, so budget for the occasional great top. (from Angela's cousin)

Liz

Am I the only one who honestly doesn't care what I look like going to the SHM? I guess I don't pay enough attention to the other people in the mall to notice anymore. I remember I used to care (I actually remember going there with my crazy friend Laura to people-watch when I lived in highland park, cos she cared - a lot) but I just don't even notice anymore.

I haven't stepped foot in the MaSH in years.

Also, THANKS, Sandra, for the word on Forever21. I just ordered FIVE shirts and it was under $85, total. See, that's my kinda store. If I paid $168 for a top I would have a nervous breakdown.

I like the current style of shirts - all flouncy and NOT form-fitting. Although if anybody asks me when I'm in one of my new tops if I'm pregnant, I'ma be pissed.

Also, whatup with all the tunics? We short-legged, short-waisted, big-assed girls are not amused.
